Kate, Moose, and I drove down the Richardson hike out by the Canwell Glacier. This was Moose’s first trip to the Alaska Range and we weren’t sure how he would handle a steeper hike since he has no back hips (he had a bilateral FHO a couple years ago). Our concerns were quelled as Moose pretty much pulled us up the hill. We are simply not fast enough for this beast.
The Drive down was absolutely stunning. I’ve never seen the air so clear in the summer. It was still a rough time for photography because of the mid-day haze, but was worth shooting anyway. We saw a good amount of wildlife on the drive. I think the count was 5 Moose, 1 bald eagle, a lynx (running in front of the car on the road into the trail) and a lot of arctic ground squirrels on the hike. Sadly, no animal pictures this round since I was driving every time one appeared.

Driving on Red Rock Canyon Road – the Subaru will fit, right?
We stopped a few times on the way home since the day seemed to just be getting nicer. We ate a late dinner Delta Junction at the Buffalo Center Drive-In and finally made it home in Fairbanks shortly before midnight. Being summer in Alaska, the Sun was in our eyes the whole way. Great day!
There are a lot more photos from this day on my photo page here: photos from 2013-07-13
