Photo of the Week – “Icy Savage River”

Landscape photo of the frozen Savage River and Double Mountain in Denali National Park
“Icy Savage River” — Photo of the week ending March 10, 2019 | Purchase Print

Looking at Double Mountain over the icy Savage River in Denali National Park & Preserve. Taken on March 8th, 2019. The snow-wall was held up on the Range to the south of us the whole time we were hiking, always giving a threat of weather, but it never moved in. More photos from this hike from Mountain Vista trailhead to the Savage River Loop can be found here: https://photos.lwpetersen.com/Date/2019/March/2019-03-08/

I’ve been having trouble kicking myself into gear with writing for the last few years, so I’m re-starting my “Photo of the Week” posts to help create some regularity. Also keeps me outside a bit more. Hopefully I can keep it going and start writing again!

Technical notes

I underexposed a bit to give a bit more depth to the weather that was holding over the mountains. The darker image provided a bit of a deeper blue in the river ice as well.
